How The EV Pros checks listings

A listing is useful only if drivers can trust it. We look for real UK trading details, EV or hybrid services, public review signals, HEVRA status where claimed, and evidence of high-voltage capability where it is supplied. Trust Scores are a directory signal, not a guarantee of workmanship, so drivers should still confirm qualifications, pricing and availability before booking.

EV Repair & Servicing FAQs

Everything UK drivers ask about finding a trusted EV specialist.

What is an EV repair specialist?
An EV repair specialist is a qualified mechanic or garage with the high-voltage training (typically IMI Level 2, 3 or 4), insulated tools and diagnostic equipment needed to safely service and repair electric vehicles. Unlike a general garage, an EV specialist can work on the high-voltage battery, motor, inverter and regenerative braking systems that standard technicians are not certified to touch.
How much does an electric car service cost in the UK?
A typical UK electric car service costs between £120 and £250 depending on the model, age and service level (interim or full). EV services are usually cheaper than petrol equivalents because there is no oil change, fewer filters and fewer moving parts — but specialist diagnostics on the battery and high-voltage system add a fixed cost most independent garages cannot match.
Do electric cars need an MOT?
Yes. Every electric car in the UK needs an MOT once it is three years old, exactly like petrol and diesel vehicles. The MOT covers brakes, steering, suspension, tyres, lights and bodywork. The emissions section is skipped for EVs, which is why an EV MOT is usually slightly quicker and a few pounds cheaper than a petrol MOT.
How often should an electric vehicle be serviced?
Most EV manufacturers recommend a service every 12 months or 18,000 miles, whichever comes first. A full battery health check is typically advised every 24 months. Skipping scheduled servicing can void parts of the battery warranty, which on most UK EVs runs to 8 years or 100,000 miles.
Can any garage repair an electric car?
No. Working on the high-voltage system of an electric vehicle legally requires an EV-qualified technician (IMI Level 3 or above). General garages without this certification can carry out tyres, brakes, suspension and 12V electrical work, but cannot safely diagnose or repair the traction battery, motor or inverter. Always check that the garage you choose is EV-qualified — every listing on The EV Pros is verified.
How do I find a trusted EV garage near me?
Search The EV Pros directory by postcode to find vetted electric vehicle specialists near you. Every listed garage is verified, many are HEVRA-approved, and each carries a Trust Score updated nightly from real reviews, qualifications and customer history — so you can book with confidence.
